Jaipur: Senior leader and former MLA from the Shiv Assembly constituency, Ameen Khan, who was expelled from the Congress, has rejoined the party after 16 months. Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa issued a press release on Tuesday announcing the revocation of his six-year expulsion.
Ameen Khan was expelled from the party on 26 April 2024 for allegedly not supporting then Lok Sabha candidate Ummedaram Beniwal during the elections. This time, his re-entry into the party has also been made on Ummedaram Beniwal’s recommendation, which was accepted by the party high command.

Ameen Khan Served as Shiv MLA Five Times
Ameen Khan is considered an influential leader of the minority community in western Rajasthan. He has contested elections from Shiv constituency 10 times on a Congress ticket and has won five times. In 2008, during Ashok Gehlot’s second term as Chief Minister, he also served as a Cabinet Minister.
Third Place in the 2023 Assembly Elections
In the 2023 Assembly elections, Ameen Khan contested as a Congress candidate but was hurt by the rebellion of the party’s own district president, who contested as an independent candidate. Independent Ravindra Singh Bhati emerged victorious in the election, while Ameen Khan finished in third place.
During the Lok Sabha elections, Ameen Khan opposed the re-entry of Fateh Khan into the Congress. However, the party high command ignored his objections and reinstated Fateh Khan.
Expulsion and Controversy
During the Lok Sabha elections, Ameen Khan was accused of supporting independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati. Following these allegations, the party expelled him. Since then, he had repeatedly expressed his displeasure with local and state Congress leadership.
Efforts for Return and Supporters’ Pressure
Even after his expulsion, Ameen Khan continued efforts to return to the Congress. A few days ago, he tried to meet former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra during a Congress public meeting in Barmer. However, due to a last-minute change in the leaders’ scheduled route, the meeting did not happen. This led to his supporters staging strong protests against local Congress leaders.
With the party’s recent decision, there is a wave of joy among Ameen Khan’s supporters, and the development is being seen as a significant political shift in western Rajasthan.
